Method

1.Heat and oil a large non-stick saucepan. Add onion and garlic; stir over heat for 5-10 minutes or until onion softens. Stir in wine, broth, thyme and bay leaves. Bring to a boil. Simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2.Meanwhile, preheat grill. Cut bread into 2cm pieces. Place on baking sheet and brush with a little olive oil. Sprinkle with half the poppy seeds, then toast under grill until lightly browned. Turn pieces of bread over and repeat with remaining oil and poppy seeds.
3.Serve french onion soup with poppy seed croutons.
