Sandusky vet sending music, family and games to Iraq

This Iraq veteran is asking for your help to pass the time in Iraq with the electronic comforts of home.
Founder of Operation High Tech, Jacy Welch, said "I'm lacking in something. I feel I'm not doing my part. So this helps me feel the way it should."
Wood said, "In the natural course of things, they're going to have time when they need to unwind and relax and let the stress go. I think this is a very productive way to do that."
A webcam is one of the electronics Welch has collected.
MP3 players and x-box video games will be a welcome relief to soldiers in Iraq.

A Sandusky man is on a mission to help soldiers serving their country in Iraq.

Dick Berry reported the story live from Wood County.

The mission of Jacy Welch is to raise money to buy electronic equipment for soldiers. He's appealing to everyone, especially American legion and posts.

Here's how you can pitch in...

Duty calls for the men and women of Delta Company 148th infantry in Sandusky. They'll be deployed next week in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Capt. Michael Wood, company commander told News 11, "We're going to Kuwait, and we'll provide security for logistics, support, and things like that for the Iraq theatre."

But what will they do in their down time? That's where Jacy Welch wants to help out.

He's an Iraq war veteran himself, and now has his own home computer business. Jacy has launched "Operation High Tech," a fundraising effort to bring overseas all the high tech gadgets of home. "All that stuff is available, but it's shared," he explained.

He's talking about stuff like laptops, webcams, i-pods, mp3 players and X-boxes. Welch even hopes to purchase portable DVD players, projectors and headsets. He says the project helps him serve his country once again."I'm lacking in something. I feel I'm not doing my part. So this helps me feel the way it should."

In a combat zone, soldiers always like to have something to remind them of home. The technology can help them pass the time. Wood said, "In the natural course of things, they're going to have time when they need to unwind and relax and let the stress go. I think this is a very productive way to do that."

Delta Company will be the middle east and away from family and friends for about a year. Welch plans to use donations from others to make their mission seem far shorter.

Donations can be made by contacting Welch.
