Troisième note

In his third note paying attention to the nematodes of the southern part of the North Sea, De Man described twelve species from the previous island Walcheren, the fortifications of Vlissingen, the “Kanaal door Walcheren” (opened in 1873) and the mouth of the Schelde.

The species described as new to science are Desmodora serpentulus, a species which later was considered identical to the common Desmodora communis. From the mouth of the Schelde he described Oncholaimus brachycercus and from the Kanaal door Walcheren the new species Chromadora microlaima (now placed in the genus Atrochromadora) and Chromadora macrolaima.

The species, previously known already and of which he gave additional descriptions are Monohystera acris (now Theristus acer), Camacolaimus tardus, Desmodora scaldensis, Monoposthia costata, Cyatholaimius ocellatus, Linhomoeus elongatus and Cyatholaimus caecus (nowadays Paracanthonchus caecus). The additional description of Anticoma eberthi is based on individuals from the southern coast of the UK (Falmouth). Most species described in the article are North Sea nematodes and Camacolaimus tardus, Monoposthia costata, Linhomoeus elongatus and Oncholaimus brachycercus have a wider distribution, they are also known from the Southern Hemisphere.
