Inspired by a Nordic Summer

Hi!, My name is Amy and I’m the founder of SJØ. I am committed to a sustainable and deeply personal approach to creating swimwear.

I grew up spending my summers on an island in Southern Norway. Every day was spent outside, enjoying the abundant nature.

SJØ was started in 2015 when I found an old crochet bikini my great-grandmother had made. This sparked a creative journey for me, learning how to create wearable art that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Since its foundation, SJØ has offered one-of-a-kind pieces, highlighting the beauty of individuality.

Locally made

Every piece is personal

SJØ is a slow fashion business, with genuine love and care put into every piece. As crafts, crochet and knitting are innately sustainable, with each product made from a single thread of yarn. This way, no extra material is used or wasted. Even the small ends that are cut off are saved and repurposed for packaging, labels, or stuffing, resulting in zero waste production.

And every purchase is made to last. If there is any damage to your SJØ piece, we offer repairs and restorations to keep clothing out of landfills and in use!

Image of studio space where SJO clothing is produced

A one-woman business where everything is handmade right here in the studio. I share this creative space with my mom, who is a painter. When a work environment is filled with so much love and comfort, the energy transfers to the artwork created within.

The studio is located next to our house on an island in Southern Norway.

The future of SJØ

Hello friends!
My name is Amy, and all the clothing you see on this page is designed and made by me.

“Hey Amy! Where do you want this business to go?”

Great question, thanks for asking! I really like to design and crochet, but I don’t love working on my knitting machine. I want to invest in knitting technology and gradually expand production to build a textile factory. I want to produce and sell clothes ethically! And live off it!

Another goal is to employ women who genuinely enjoy creating art and make sure they are payed and treated well. I want SJØ to have a reach beyond just myself. I want this brand to help real people, their families, and communities.

I also want to connect with the rest of the maker community by offering patterns, tips and lessons.

Lots of things going on, challenging to get it done when it’s only me working. But slow and steady we make progress!

Exciting things are coming, and I would love if you stuck around and watched my business journey.
