The Ministry of the Interior has placed movement restrictions on the port area of Inkoo in southern Finland, it said on Friday. The decision enters into force Monday, 4 December.

Among other things, the port is home to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal ship. Inkoo (Ingå in Swedish) lies about 60km west of Helsinki.

The Interior Ministry announced its intention to restrict the area shortly after the Balticconnector gas pipeline rupture.

The ministry's decree lists the places where movement is prohibited under the Police Act. Moving or staying in the restricted area is prohibited without the permission of the operator of the area.

According to the Ministry, the purpose of the restrictions is to protect people both in the site and outside of it.

On Saturday, President Sauli Niinistö said that China is cooperating in the investigation into the Balticconnector pipeline break, which was apparently caused by the anchor of a Chinese container ship.
