High-Quality Freeze-Drying Protectant – Trehalose Dihydrate

Time:2023-12-06 Hits:268
Seebio’s trehalose dihydrate [6138-23-4], Catalog Number: 182273, is a non-reducing sugar composed of two glucose molecules linked by a 1,1-glycosidic bond. It exists in three isomeric forms: trehalose (α,α), isotrehalose (β,β), and neo-trehalose (α,β). Trehalose exhibits non-specific protective effects on various bioactive substances and is widely present in edible plants, microorganisms, and organisms consumed in daily life, such as mushrooms, seaweed, beans, shrimp, bread, beer, and yeast-fermented foods.

Applications of Trehalose in Bioproducts
The unique biological properties of trehalose have found widespread applications in the field of medicine. It is primarily used as a freeze-drying protectant for biopharmaceuticals, a protein stabilizer for monoclonal antibody injections, and a preservation solution for blood products, providing stability to biological membranes and protein structures. Compared to common sugars like sucrose, trehalose offers distinct advantages, leading to its increasing use in vaccines, diagnostic reagents, and other bioproducts.

Trehalose is increasingly used in vaccines, serving as a protective agent to replace serum albumin. This enhances the stability of vaccine products, allowing many vaccines to be stored at room temperature and reducing the costs associated with cold-chain transportation. Furthermore, it helps prevent the spread of deadly diseases like hepatitis B and HIV due to blood source contamination.

The protective effects of trehalose on enzymes and proteins have been extensively validated. Adding 8-12wt% trehalose to enzyme conjugate diluents in certain diagnostic reagent kits has been reported to maintain the stability of the enzyme conjugate diluent, thereby preserving the stability of the reagent kit. The activity of enzyme-labeled antibodies remains unchanged after 37°C for 4 days when stabilized with trehalose, while the activity of antibodies without the stabilizer is almost completely lost.

Seebio is committed to developing high-quality trehalose products, providing essential support for the research and development of bioproducts.
