Dahoon Holly (Ilex cassine)

Dahoon HollyDescription: Erect growth habit with smooth, shiny deep-green leaves. not thorny. Female trees bear red berries in winter, which are excellent food for birds. Native.

Size: Typically 20 feet.

Location: Plant at least 20 feet from power lines and 10-16 feet from your house. Requires full sun to part shade. Well suited for wet areas.

Salt tolerance: Medium.

Watering: Water during planting and for one year thereafter. Usually doesn't need additional watering after one year except during a long drought.

Fertilization: Do not fertilize until 6 months after planting. Call 305-248-3311 ext.228 for fertilizing information specific to your tree.

Pruning: Remove tree stake after planting.
