Dark orange cap 2.5 to 6 cm wide strongly inrolled in young specimens The 2.5 - 10 cm long orange to orange-brown stalk thickens toward the base and is often curved. The stalk attaches to the cap at or near its center.

Blade-like forked (dichotomously forking) gills. Gills are not decurrent (running down the stem) Single to scattered. Grows on soil or from decayed conifer wood.
