Hello,

I was on the Mulkey Creek trail with some Greenbelt Land Trust volunteers today and someone found this Shield-backed Katydid nymph. Looks like Steindachner’s shieldback (Neduba steindachneri) on BugGuide. I recall from Lisa's article in the fall 2020 Neighborhood Naturalist issue (back page), she found that the science has yet to be determined on which species this might be.

I also found this snakefly larva (about 1" long). Little information is available on their larva but the adults of Agulla genus are common here. On BugGuide, all the snakefly larvae are essentially unidentified but I found some photos that closely match this one.

NOTE: parts of the Mulkey Ridge trail will be closed from Monday, July 12 through the fall for forest thinning. The lower trail along the creek we hiked today will remain open.
