TX: Brazos River Bridges

Texas Brazos RiverTexas Department of Transportation’s $43 million Brazos River Bridges project relieved congestion and connected communities across the Brazos River by constructing two new additional bridges with improved access for pedestrians and bikes. The project team used an innovative design to create the first two “extradosed” bridges in Texas, and only the second and third of its kind in the United States. Extradosed bridges are generally described as a cross between a box-girder and cable-stayed bridge. The team worked closely with nearby Baylor University and the bridges were completed a month before the first football game in the University’s newly constructed stadium. The city of Waco now has two landmark bridges that connect motorists, bikes, and pedestrians with the surrounding communities and city.
