Different Styles of Columns
The next style is Ionic, this style is taller, thinner and more elegant than the Doric style. It is also more decorative than the Doric column. The Ionic style’s capital is decorated with a volute (scroll-like design). Unlike the Doric style the Ionic has a decorated base. This style of column was found in eastern ancient Greece and the islands near.

The first style of column is Doric. The Doric style is a well built and the top is plain. It is also the oldest and simplest column. This column has no base and has a very simple capital. Temples with Doric columns were the least decorated. The Doric style was used in mainland Greece. Also, they were used in colonies in southern Italy and Sicily.
The final column is Corinthian. This style is rarely used in Greece, but on Roman temples they were more common. The capital on Corinthian is very complicated and decorated with acanthus leaves (a leaf meaning enduring life, and traditionally used at funerary celebrations) and floral patterns. It also looks a lot like the Ionic order, but the capitals are decorated.
