Sagebrush false-dandelion is one of the earliest of the dandelion-like native wildflowers to bloom, often starting in April.  Unlike most of the other dandelion-like species, the leaves usually lack teeth or lobes, instead having wavy edges (aka undulate margins).  At least in our local plants, the peduncle below the flower head is usually glabrous, the phyllaries tend to be splotched with purple-black spots, and the pappus is sub-plumose.  In most previous floras this species was included in a more inclusive Microseris.
