Join us across Fforest Fawr Geopark in the western half of the Brecon Beacons National Park for three weeks of walks, talks and more. Running from Saturday 17th May until Sunday 9th June we give you our top 5 events not to miss out on throughout the three weeks!

1. Launching a new trail (17th May 2014)
Help launch a brand new 4 mile circular trail in the upper Swansea Valley by walking a route from Abercrave onto Cribarth’s rocky ridge and back via the Tawe riverside path. Explore old tramroads, limestone workings, panoramic views, ancient woodlands and a chance of seeing a dipper or kingfisher on the river.

2. About causing a disturbance (20th May)
A talk by Dr John Davies of the Welsh Stone Forum on the Carreg Cennen Disturbance which will probably mention Owain Glyndwr’s siege of the castle, but is more likely to explain why the castle is there at all. It will try to explain what Carreg Cennen has in common with Church Stretton in Shropshire, or Market Weighton in Yorkshire, and why you must not be surprised if you are woken from your slumbers by the odd earthquake.

3. Stargazing evening with astronomer (May 24th )
Join this Good Day Out experience night to learn how to recognise familiar constellations, use binoculars correctly to look for deep sky objects and use telescopes to take pictures of the night sky.

This fun and intimate training session ensures a great experience and some proceeds from the evening go towards Dark Sky Wales’ programme of astronomy and robotic workshops for children.

Places are very limited as training conducted in a very small group.  The evening will be held at a dark sky location within the Brecon Beacons National Park, with exact location confirmed when you book.

4. Beacons in Trust (May 31st 10am – 4pm)
A strenuous 9 mile (14km) circular walk over the northern slopes of the Brecon Beacons, exploring little known corners of the National Trust’s central Beacons estate. May not be suitable for younger children. Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. Dogs welcome if on leads.

Please bring suitable clothing for weather conditions (Beware, the weather can change quickly on the mountains), sturdy walking boots and food and drink.

5. Caves, Cairns & Klints (June 6th)
Archaeological and geological walk around Pant Sychbant, east of Penderyn with Glamorgan Gwent Archaeological Trust in partnership with the Brecon Beacons Park Society. Bronze Age cairns aplenty, C19th limeworkings and the impressive sink of Ogof Fawr which entirely swallows up the Nant Cadlan – not to be missed! Meeting initially at Penderyn Community Centre, we will car share to the start of the walk from the meeting point (where there is limited parking). Teas and cake and toilets available at the centre both before and after the walk. Penderyn Community Historical Society are putting on a special display for the occasion. Bring a packed lunch, flask, weather protection!
