Cowley Theatre to present THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

Students in Cowley College’s Theatre Department are busy preparing for the school’s Winter Play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST by Oscar Wilde. The play will be performed February 15-17 inside the Robert Brown Theatre.

The Importance of Being Earnest is the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies. It’s the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, who both create alter egos named Earnest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Earnest. The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become tangled in a tale of deception, disguise, and misadventure. The elaborate plot ridicules Victorian sensibilities with some of the best-loved, and indeed bizarre, characters to be found on the modern stage.

The play is directed by Nick Albrecht, with technical direction by Jason Huffman. Seating for the production will be on the stage of the Theatre.

Tickets are on sale at the Cowley Box Office: cowley.edu/boxoffice. The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on February 15-16 and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 17.
