The CW has made it official, opting not to bring back freshman military drama Valor for a second season.
Valor, starring Matt Barr and Christina Ochoa, underperformed in ratings and failed to receive a back-nine order. The show’s stars already signed on to new gigs as series regulars in pilots — the CW’s Skinny Dip and ABC’s ensemble drama pilot A Million Little Things, which is certain to go to series, respectively.
In Valor, the boundaries between military discipline and human desire were tested on a U.S. Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions. The drama unfolded in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets and leading to a season-long plan to rescue a group of MIA soldiers.
Writer-musician Kyle Jarrow penned the series and executive produced with Anna Fricke (Being Human), who served as showrunner, Bill Haber and Michael Robin. The project hailed from CBS TV Studios and was a co-production with Warner Bros. Television.
Co-starring alongside Barr and Ochoa were Charlie Barnett, W. Trè Davis, Corbin Reid, Nigel Thatch and Melissa Roxburgh.
Valor is the second official CW cancellation today, joining fellow freshman Life Sentence.
The CW has renewed 11 series for the 2018-19 television season. Returning series are Dynasty, Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane The Virgin, Black Lightning, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, Riverdale and The 100. iZombie remains on the bubble.
