An American actor, born in Los Angeles, California, on January 1, 1925. He died in Los Angeles, California, on January 8, 1981 of pneumonia. His major work includes: Dogs Is Dogs (1931), Mush and Milk (1933), and Bedtime Worries (1933). Matthew made his debut at the age of two in...Read more My Best Girl (1927), and when he was five, he signed a 5-year contract to participate in the short film series Our Gang. He appeared in feature films, such as Captain Blood (1935) and Jezebel (1938), and at the age of 15, he retired from acting and fell into drug abuse and street life, became addicted to heroin and spent most of his early life in and out of jail on drug and theft charges. In the sixties, he was able to kick his drug habit, and returned again to appear in films in small roles, and then participated in television series. Beard then traveled across the country to give lectures to raise awareness of the harms of drug addiction, until he died of pneumonia at the age of 56, and was buried in the famous derby hat he wore, which was a gift from star Stan Laurel.
