The most spectacular native shrub of the Appalachian Mountains! Flower color typically varies from orange to yellow to red with orange being the most common. Our plants are seed grown and there is some variation in flower color. We pride ourselves on growing high quality native plants with a healthy root system. Plants are grown in a trade 1 gallon container.

Flame azalea (Rhododendron calendulaceum) is an upright, woody, deciduous shrub that typically matures to 8 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide. It is native primarily to the Appalachian Mountains from Pennsylvania to Georgia. It has large, showy, funnel-shaped flowers in clusters of 5 or more. The non-fragrant flowers, appearing before or with the leaves, vary in color. Summer foliage is medium green and the fall color is red to burgundy.
