Legon Cities announce tragic death of former goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey

Legon Cities have announced the untimely passing of their former goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey, at the age of 26.

Sackey succumbed to a brief illness on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the football community in shock and grief.

In an official statement, the club expressed their deep sorrow: "It is with a heavy heart that we sadly announce the passing of our goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey.

“Sackey has been with us the last four seasons and was our first choice goalkeeper for a greater part of the last two seasons. His demise is a big blow to everyone associated with the club. Our hearts & thoughts are with the bereaved family at this very difficult time."

Sackey's tenure with Legon Cities spanned four seasons.

Over the course of his time with the club, he made a total of 30 appearances. Notably, he contributed to 19 appearances in the 2022/23 season.

Following the conclusion of his contract, Sackey bid farewell to Legon Cities at the end of last season.

The club is now in close contact with Sackey's family and will provide further updates on the course of action in the coming days.
