"Botia" modesta ?!?

Post by wasserscheu » Sun Feb 25, 2007 10:45 am

At a hardware-store (chain) I found a Yasuhikotakia modesta, looked like this one, but in color not as dark rather some green touch:

Image

--- more of the shape like this young Yasuhikotakia lecontei,

Image

--- the fins were more yellow and the fin-ornaments almost reminded of this Syncrossus berdmorei:

Image

--- had small eyes (like morleti)

--- only about 5 of the ten fish had the ornamet on the tail and top fin, the others had plain orange fins, otherwise looking identical

they were marked as botia modesta, are they?

Could it have been any other loach rather than Yasuhikotakia modesta?

I loved them - but they are too rough for a community tank, I suppose.

Thanks

Wolfram

Hi Wolfram,

The more rounded and stubbier tail shape (with a similar body colour to that of Y. modesta) says Y. eos to me, but you normally see the beginnings of the white margins on the dorsal fin. When you say they had 'ornaments' on the fins, do you mean spotted markings? (as in Y. caudipunctata)?

Hi Emma,

Thanks for pointing out the Y. caudipunctata, somehow I overlooked that one. This one comes closest, ... looks like it, except the bigger vertical band in front of the tail...

... never seen those before, and I´m hardly leaving out an opportunity checking LFS´s... modestas can be seen moere often around here...

Ciao

Hello "LO."

... yes I was surprised, this chain does not have fish-stores in many branches. Their tank setup was very nice from the optical-technical point of view.

I was astonished of the very nice cichlid selection they had. ... The water was almost too clear...

However, when looking at the staff, sorry of my really nasty preconception in this case - I did not bother to ask where they have the y.c. from or what they thought they were. I´ve listened to her talking to other customers - that made me save the effort ... however I should have asked - my fault! I was in a not good mood...

... the totally skinny almost dried out clowns made me sad, appeared that almost all of them had the skinny desease. Also were there far too many clowns! When I am getting more "brave", I will approach regarding the NCIAC. I assume there is no real base for a good talk ... I will keep dropping by there when circumstances allow and get a longterm picture and then will do a conversation with a followup plan with management...

can´t save the world in one day - but some day
