SUMMARY
Anamorph: Exophiala sp. Conidiomata absent. Conidiogenous cells 3.5-8.5 (-10) x 2-4 µm, cylindrical to doliiform, sometimes intercalary, pale olivaceous to olive-brown, arising terminally or laterally from undifferentiated hyphae, with a distinctly annellate conidiiferous peg 0.5-3 µm long. Conidia 2.5-5.5 (-6.5) x 1.5-3 (-3.5) µm, obovoid to ellipsoidal, 1-celled, subhyaline, smooth-walled, with a flattened basal scar.
Teleomorph: ascomata 100-200 µm diam., superficial, scattered, globose to subglobose, black, with short brown aseptate setae 10-20 x 1-2.5 µm forming a cone surrounding the ostiolar opening, and longer straight or curved setae 15-30 x 2-4 µm scattered over the surface of the ascomata. Peridium brown, the outer layer composed of thick-walled angular cells 4-9 X 3-5 µm in size. Interascal tissue not seen. Asci 38-50 x 7.5-9.5 µm, obclavate to cylindrical, fissitunicate, containing an apical ring that is indistinct in both unstained preparations and in Melzer's reagent, young asci with a thickened and elongated endotunica, mature asci thinner- walled, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, (10.5-) 11.5-14.5 x 3.5-5 µm, at first hyaline, becoming yellowish-brown, clavate-cylindrical with obtuse ends, with (3-) 5 (-7) transverse and 1 (-2) incomplete longitudinal septa passing through one or two cells, constricted somewhat at the septa, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
