Description from the 1933 catalog, Royal Iris Gardens (J. C. Nicholls, Jr., Camillus, NY), pp.74-75:
Other American Species
D. K. Williamson (Williamson 1918). 33". Fulva X Foliosa. A beautiful hybrid of deep velvety blue purple, with large flowers of good shape and very lasting substance. The color, shape of bloom, and stem arrangement are very artistic. It is splendid as a cut flower, a vase of blooms always eliciting much admiration. Its foliage is a beautiful deep green, remaining so throughout the season. Fine for borders.
