The Glory of Heemstede dahlia will enrich your property with its clean yellow flowers that develop between June and September. The slightly flattened flower balls that consist of petals resembling those of water lilies provide you with a portion of bright colour when other plants lose their flair. Dahlias are vigorous and long flowering plants. The 100 to 110 centimetres tall bushes that are adorned with numerous flowers can be used in many ways. The shining bright flowers usually adorn flower beds, borders, and fences when planted in rows. The Glory of Heemstede dahlia will also flourish in pots or boxes on a balcony or terrace, provided you choose sufficiently large planters. Dahlia, or Georgina, as it has been called in the past, are valued cut flowers too. They can stay fresh in a vase for dozen days or more when taken care of.

Charming dahlias cannot winter in the ground. Its stems should be cut down and tubers dug out and stored indoors after the first autumn frost. We recommend placing the rootstocks in an airy box filled with sawdust or peat. The temperature in the storage room should be low but never fall below the freezing point.

Dahlia tufts require a sunny site that is also sheltered from wind. Dahlias are rather demanding when it comes to nutrients. Therefore, we recommend enriching the soil with compost before planting rootstocks. Dahlias should be fed all season long. Choose multicomponent fertilizers with lower nitrogen content as this compound blocks flowering. Dahlias need to be regularly watered to develop well - they quickly react with wilting to water shortages. Dahlia varieties that produce large and heavy blooms require staking that prevents frail shoots from breaking. Remove some of the flower buds to grow larger blooms. Removing of the wilted flowers helps to prolong the flowering period.
