Dahlias are vigorous and long flowering plants. The 100 to 110 centimetres tall bushes that are adorned with numerous flowers can be used in many ways. Charming dahlias cannot winter in the ground. Its stems should be cut down and tubers dug out and stored indoors after the first autumn frost. Dahlia tufts require a sunny site that is also sheltered from wind. Dahlias are rather demanding when it comes to nutrients. Therefore, we recommend enriching the soil with compost before planting rootstocks. Dahlias should be fed all season long. Choose multicomponent fertilizers with lower nitrogen content as this compound blocks flowering. Dahlias need to be regularly watered to develop well - they quickly react with wilting to water shortages. Dahlia varieties that produce large and heavy blooms require staking that prevents frail shoots from breaking. Remove some of the flower buds to grow larger blooms. Removing of the wilted flowers helps to prolong the flowering period.
