Two new Xanthoria s. str. species, Xanthoria polessica and X. juniperina, the members of the Xanthoria parietina-group (from Belarus, Ukraine and Russia), and Rusavskia dasanensis (from Norway) are described, as well as compared with closely related taxa. Current position of 47 species of xanthorioid lichens described during the last two decades in 15 different genera of the subfamily Xanthorioideae of the family Teloschistaceae is discussed. Caloplaca herbidella (Arnold) H. Magn. and Telogalla olivieri (Vouaux) Nik. Hoff. et Hafellner are for the first time recorded for Belarus.

Key words: Gallowayella, Jackelixia, Massjukiella, Oxneria, Xanthodactylon

INTRODUCTION

More than 25 new species of the genus Xanthoria were described during the last 15 years (Eichenberger et al. 2007, Karnefelt et al. 2002, Kondratyuk 1997, Kondratyuk and Karnefelt 1997a, 2000, 2003a, Kondratyuk and Poelt 1997, Kondratyuk and Zelenko 2002, Kondratyuk et al. 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, Lindblom 1997, 2001, 2004). In addition, further new xanthorioid lichen species were also described (Kondratyuk et al. 2008, 2009, Lindblom 2006, Lumbsch et al. 2011, Wirth and Kondratyuk 2010). However, the major part of these taxa now is combined to other generic groups in connection of describing 13 new genera for the whole xanthorioid group (Fedorenko et al. 2009, 2012, Kondratyuk and Karnefelt 1997b, 2003b, Kondratyuk et al. 2008, 2013a, Sochting et al. 2002). Unfortunately information on various groups of xanthorioid lichens is provided in separate papers and it can be a problem to find appropriate information on current position of the xanthorioid lichens for non-specialists working with other groups of lichen-forming fungi.

The aim of this paper is to show current position of species, which were described during the last 15 years as members of the genus Xanthoria, and to present descriptions of Xanthoria polessica and X. juniperina, recently found new lichen species in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia, and Rusavskia dasanensis found in Norway on the basis of revision of herbarium specimens in the lichen herbarium of the Institute of Experimental Botany, Minsk (MSK-L), the lichen herbarium of M. H. Kholodny Institute of Botany, Kiev (KW-L) and the lichen herbarium of the Korean Lichen Research Institute, Sunchon National University, South Korea (hereafter KoLRI), as well as on analysis of other recent collections.

METHODS

The specimens were examined using standard microscopical techniques and the hand-sectioned preparations were studied by dissecting microscope (Nikon SMZ 645, Nikon, Tokyo, Japan). Anatomical descriptions were based on observations of these preparations made by Olympus BX51 microscope with Olympus DP-Soft photo program (in MSK-L) and Nikon Eclipse E200 (Nikon, Tokyo, Japan), and Zeiss Scope A1 (Carl Zeiss, Oberkochen, Germany) with digital camera AxioCam ERc 5s (in KoLRI). Sections of apothecia were tested with water and with K for identification.

RESULTS

A total of 47 species, which were described as members of the genus Xanthoria (or close genera) during the last 15 years with their current position in the system of Teloschistaceae, are provided in Table 1.

The following two genera, i.e. Gallowayella (12 species) and Jackelixia (9 species), have the highest species...
