Graceful, flowing fountain grasses are versatile and beautiful plants for sunny, dry landscapes. This dwarf fountain grass works well in tight, small spaces, in borders or perennial gardens. It is similar in appearance to Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Hameln’, but ‘Cassian’ is a foot taller, and we found it to be hardier after our harshest North Carolina winter. Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Cassian’ produces cream-pink tinted bottlebrush blooms in July that persist well into September. A marvelous palette of oranges and reds appears in October. Wintertime ‘Cassian’ skeletons look lovely coated in frost and dusted with snow. Dwarf Fountain Grass was selected by Kurt Bluemel and named for German horticulturalist Cassian Schmidt.

GROWER INFO & TIPS
- Growth rate: medium-fast
- Grow in 1, 2 or 3 gallon containers
- Grow in well-drained soil
- Water needs: keep evenly moist
- Fertilizing: use a slow release, medium-rate fertilizer
- Possible pests: aphids, spidermites, spittlebugs
- Overwintering: cold frame with clear poly; do not overwater; can overwinter outside if kept protected from cold and too much moisture
