Stein, Whitaker, and Foy Garner Basketball NAIA All-American Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Tuesday, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 2023 All-Americans for men's and women's basketball. Indiana Tech earned recognition in the awards with three Warriors claiming All-American status.

On the men's side, Indiana Tech's Rog Stein was named to the 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball All-American Second Team. Stein is a graduate student from Kalamazoo, Michigan and started all 37 games for the Warriors. Stein was the Warriors second leading scorer, averaging 12.4 PPG. He led the team in minutes played, rebounds, and steals with 29.2, 6.5, and 1.5 per game respectively. He also averaged 2.4 assists per game and 0.4 blocks per game on the way to leading the Warriors to the best season in program history. Tech finished the season with a 32-5 record, setting a program record for wins. The Warriors also went 18-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, winning the regular season title for the third straight season. The Warriors finished the season just one basket shy of their first ever national championship in program history, as they fell in the NAIA National Championship game 73-71 to the College of Idaho and finished the season as the national runner-up.

On the women's side, Indiana Tech's Kyra Whitaker and Erika Foy were named to the 2023 NAIA Women's Basketball All-American teams. Whitaker was named to the second team and Foy earned honorable mention status. Whitaker started every game for the Warriors, leading the team in minutes played with 32.9 a game, points with 16.3 a game, and free throw percentage at 82.3%. She also shot the ball extremely well from three at a 38.2% clip. The graduate student from Greensburg, Indiana averaged 2.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 0.6 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game this season. Foy is a redshirt senior from Gas City, Indiana and started all 32 games she played for the Warriors this season. She averaged 31.1 minutes per game and was the Warriors second leading scorer, averaging 15. 2 PPG. Foy nearly averaged a double-double per game, leading the Warriors in rebounds per game with 9.8. She averaged 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game, while shooting the rock at a 53.5% clip. The Warriors finished the season with a 27-6 overall record, going 18-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on their way to winning their fifth regular season title in the last six years. At the NAIA National Championships, the Warriors made it to the second round of the tournament defeating Bryan College (Tenn.) in round one 63-48, before falling to Briar Cliff University (Iowa) 86-79 in a hard fought back and forth contest.

The 2023 Daktronics NAIA Men's and Women's Basketball Scholar-Athletes were also released with 13 Warriors receiving honors. To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA, appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year at their institution. Indiana Tech's Tyler Canfield, Jeremy Davison, Blake Davison, Josh Kline, Lucas Lehrman, and Jeremy Luciani were honored on the men's side, while Amaris Lowery, Bree Dossen, Camille Keyes, Genevieve Decker, Jules Cutrara, Korryn Smith, and Laney Steckler were honored on the women's side.
