Ditransitive verbs join three elements of a clause: the subject, the direct object, and the indirect object. In English, the order in which they do this is the following:

Prepositional phrase with FOR = indicates the beneficiary, person who benefits or enjoys the action.

Prepositional phrase with TO = indicates that sb/sth is affected by the action.

Some verbs never have TO or FOR with the indirect object.

Acquire, Bake, build, buy, compose, cook, design, do, find, get, hire, leave, make, order, perform, prescribe, rent, save, sing, write.

Announce, confess, contribute, convey, declare, deliver, describe, donate, explain, introduce, mention, narrate, prove, refer, report, return, say, speak, submit, suggest, transfer He confessed his plans to me. The post office delivered the package to me. He introduced his wife to us. I returned the book to the library.

Allow, charge, cost, fine, save, spare, tax, tip, wish.

He baked a cake for me. He ordered a pizza for Mike. He cashed a cheque for me. The actor performed for his audience.
