I just wanted to take a moment to gush about one of my favorite villain moments in Pokemon.

I remember watching someone do a playthru when the game first came out in Japan, and they had gotten to this scene, and I was so surprised since none of the other main-series villains had tried to outright KILL the player before (I mean, even Cyrus states you’re coming to his new world too), and here’s Ghetsis, apparently saying fuck giving you a fair fight and promptly attempting to have Kyurem brutally impale you. At least that’s what I assumed he had ordered at the time before the English version had him say he’d freeze us so we could watch his ascent. (I’d just like to point out tho that Glaciate can’t freeze; it’s a beefed-up Icy Wind. But I digress.)

It probably shouldn’t have been that shocking since there’s some subtle hints back in the first game that he was planning on offing N like Hydreigon’s moveset countering pretty much everything on N’s final team, especially his Legendary Dragon, but I suppose the fact that it was just implied kinda softened the blow.

Iwane drew N and Ghetsis today. Team Plasma is probably my favorite team in terms of leadership, and in all honesty, I’m a little disappointed they haven’t made a villain since that’s as heinous as Ghetsis was since. (Lysandre attempted worse, but was once a philanthropist before he turned to genocide out of disgust for human greed, and he does show some regret for his actions, at least when it comes to having to kill Pokemon too. And Lusamine was said to be a good mom once, at least before Mohn’s disappearance lead to an obsession with the UBs. SM only ends with some implied chance at reformation and making amends, but we get more in terms of remorse in Ultra. So, they both fell short for me.) It makes him a lot of fun to watch and hate, and it’s so cathartic when we knock a few holes in his ego and avenge N.

And then we have N himself as one of the most sympathetic Pokemon antagonists, and I loved how he was finally able to escape Ghetsis’s influence with the player’s help, and the badass moment he gets when he saves us from Kyurem’s Glaciate in B2W2.

My sole disappointment about seeing Ghetsis in Masters is that we don’t have Colress added to the roster yet, so he’s unable to ruin Ghetsis’s day. (I really just need more moments where he’s causing Ghetsis’s blood pressure to spike.)

My biggest worry is if they’ll try to downplay Ghetsis’s actions like they did with Lysandre’s. I don’t want his abusive treatment towards N to be softened in any way (especially considering that he was maybe planning to kill N off considering Hydreigon’s moveset in BW counters everything on N’s team, and he had N’s Dragon in his possession in Ultra, raising questions about what happened to the poor kid) or them trying to suggest that Ghetsis could ever be redeemed.

N tried getting thru to him after his defeat in 2 and Ghetsis fucking lost it:

Me and my friend were talking about this scene since Ghetsis is coming back for Evolutions, and she mentioned seeing this scene for the first time without context and expected a game-over, so I put this together for her.

It’s been ten years today since Ghetsis literally tried to kill us! (B2W2’s 10th anniversary in Japan.)

Ngl, I remember watching this back when the games weren’t translated and kinda freaked out since I thought he was trying to have Kyurem brutally impale us. 😅

Nine years today, B2W2 released in Japan! (I remember watching a Japanese playthru and this scene made my jaw drop. No other villain had gone so far to try to kill the player aside from in spinoff titles, like even Cyrus planned to keep you alive.)

Colress pretty much cheerfully throws Ghetsis to an angry Kyurem, who promptly starts making its way to destroy the Frigate:

Ghetsis vs. N, and N is pretty much ready to sacrifice himself if need be, so I hope Black awakens soon.

N tries to save his (not-)Father’s life, only to be slapped across the face with Ghetsis’s cane for his efforts.
