SAP Hybris Commerce Architecture

Hybris is a Java, Spring, J2EE based multi-tiered closed source e-commerce framework, adopts an open architecture, which can connect to systems on extensions and modules, making it relatively easy to integrate new features and functionality into deployment. SAP Hybris is predominately used as a full end to end ecommerce solution, but use as a Product or Content Management system is also possible. Likewise, Hybris has extensive data and order management capabilities that can be combined or used in a standalone fashion. The base architecture is a platform which realizes functionalities to the end user via modules and extensions that are presented to the end user by frontend.

  • DATABASE
    • Hybris Database is not strictly a Hybris component but key inoperation of suite
    • Hybris can run on most major databases like MySQL, MSSQL, SAP HANA, Oracle
    • It is recommended to use Hybris suite for read and write to the database as direct database access, outside Hybris APIs can cause data inconsistencies
  • APPLICATION SERVER:
    • Hybris is a java based system runs within JVM on Servlet Container or a J2EE compliant application server
    • Hybris comes pre-bundled with Apache Tomcat including relevant caching and persistence mechanisms
  • PLATFORM:
    • It supports core services and functionality needed to run and operate suite
    • It abstracts various data and functionalities streams into discrete units and exposes them to higher layers of the suite
    • Core platform should not be altered instead use extensions and customization should be made in line with Hybris best practices
  • BUNDLES:
    • Ready to use functionality
    • Used singularly but often have interdependence being strongly leverages in accelerator offerings
    • Allow for extensive customizations and abstraction within Hybris suite
  • APIs:
    • Subject to continuous update but commonly used APIs are ServiceLayer API, WebService API and VirtualJDBC API
    • Hybris web service framework is based on RESTful architecture, thereby providing secure CRUD access to all models in the ServiceLayer over widely adopted protocol
  • ACCELERATORS:
    • Out of the box, ready to use collection of extensions and functionality that create a basic building block for use in a project
    • Allow for extremely fast development cycles and adhesion to best practice
    • Use is not mandatory and flexibility allows a project to pick and choose from examples shipped with SAP Hybris
