Walton Bridge heading inland & down river, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey

Walton Bridge is fairly new and has been built with a network of paths around it.

The car park is accessed from the Walton side of the bridge – follow signs for Cowey Sale – and is free to use.

It is also where Gino’s Cafe can be found. We had sausage and egg sandwich and the obligatory cup of tea. Very tasty.

The only seats are outside and the dog was able to come up to the order counter where he made friends with some other customers. They have toilets there and we saw some people take their dogs in with them. There is also a water bowl for dogs.

We walked up behind the cafe to Engine River and along a path back to the bridge. We then followed the footpath to the main span and under to the towpath, part of the Thames Path.

This was just a short walk but we also sat and watched the geese and a few boats.

After the sandwich and tea we walked to the other end of the car park where we found a good footpath.

We walked up hill a bit then turned right onto a slightly muddy track that got narrower and muddier as we went, including a few places where wellies would have been more suitable.

We walked alongside Broad Water for a bit, admiring the posh flats and houses, then we popped through a gap and out into a field.

It was a bit late though so rather then head towards the sunset we turned and went back to the car park, making it another twenty minute loop. We didn’t see anywhere to sit on this section though.

All in all a nice place with good facilities.

  1. Safe lead walk.
  2. Free.
  3. All day access. – lights in the car park only.
  4. Parking.
  5. Cafe.
  6. Dog friendly.
  7. Bins.
  8. Flat with well kept paths.
  9. Benches near the car park.
