Finally!!! Nicaraguense food in the east bay!!! This may possibly be the best thing that has ever happened! The food is so good I feel like I'm in the capital of Nicaragua! The menu has everything I beg to eat whenever I get a craving for my Nicaraguan food!
To top it off....drum roll please....CACAO! It's the best drink ever! It's a chocolate drink (the actual unprocessed powder) that has milk, sugar, and cinnamon! There's also other drinks....that are just as good.
For dessert make sure and order - Buñuelos! It's yuka with cheese....there's really no explaining except its salty/sweet and delicious!
For a standard Nicaraguan dish, order whatever you please from the menu. Just make sure you get the basic food group necessary to live in a standard Nicaraguan household. And that includes queso frito (fried cheese), gallo pinto (rice and beans mixed together,) AND maduro frito (fried plantains)!
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SUPERB! Sara was super nice, along with the chef's. It's family owned. And I hope it's here to stay!!!
A la puchica! Que rico!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Pablo R.San Francisco, CA77362113Apr 9, 2015
I was itching to try this new spot when I saw the Nicaraguan food sign. Unfortunately, it seems this place doesn't have much of a future. Arriving on Sunday for breakfast, the sign says opens at 10 am. They really opened at 11 AM. When I asked the guy about the sign, he said they haven't changed it yet. ???
They were late to open and had to warm up everything, including the food from last night. The service was slow with only one guy who didn't look too happy about being there while he took care of his toddler. Each plate came out 15 minutes in between. The coffee was probably the only thing decent. Even the fried egg was drippy greasy.
So disappointing on so many levels. Do yourself a favor and pass this place.
If you want to eat rice and beans for $15 bucks, come over to my place. Better than here for sure.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Veronica C.Emeryville, CA171634Aug 22, 2014
My husband and I have been eagerly awaiting a Nicaraguan restaurant in the East Bay! No more driving across the bay whenever I crave Nicaraguan. The customer service here is great, which is something I can't say of all other Nicaraguan restaurants I have been to, sadly. I'm a vegetarian and the server/restaurant was very accommodating! I was able to get gallo pinto, salad, platanos fritos, tostones, and cacao. They didn't mind answering all my weird questions, which are routine for me as a vegetarian. I wanted to take more pictures but I ate too quickly (the food was delicious and I was too hungry). I only got a shot of the last plate: tostones with fried cheese :). I hope this place is here forever and that they continue the good customer service!

The service was horrible, I had to ask the guy for everything silverware, napkin and bill. I loved the food but services was two thumbs down.

first time: i went in right before work, i had heard about this place and decided to try it out. I ordered the carne asada plate with queso frito. The flavors were amazing though the meat was a little tough but still very good! waitress could have been more attentive being i was the only one there at the time (soon after got packed), but overall nice lady. the ambience is totally Nicaragua which i love reminds me of home. They play cute videos with traditional dances and i enjoyed my overall experience.
second time: I took my mother and she loved it the nacatamales were AMAZING!!! the tostadas with queso frito were yummm and the lady in the back even made me salpicon which wasnt ready but shes like no problem ill make some just for you :( (sad face because it reminded me of my grandma that passed away) mind you she did a great job with it...really brought me back. This waitress was very attentive and super sweet. My mom loved it
all in all im super happy i stopped by most def my new place to bring the fam!!!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rocio C.Portland, OR705328Nov 25, 2014
I was having a taste for my mamas cooking, and so I looked up "Costa Rican cuisine" and this was the next best find. I really just wanted some tamales and gallo pinto. I ended up getting the gallo pinto with the fried cheese and crema, which was solid yummy gallo pinto. The tamales were soooooo yummy. I hate when a tamale is all dry and powdery. These were moist and flavorful. The guanabana juice was delish! My bf got some ribs. And they were kinda meh. Anyways, will def return to try some more yummy Nicaraguan food. But please play only one song at a time! You guys had two different songs on at the same time and they were both so loud it got so distracting and irritating. Just one of those little things that effects a meal. But the ladies here were darling and were patient with my non-Spanish speaking boyfriend.

What a cool little spot in San Pablo. I'm always skeptical of places that don't have many reviews but you gotta start somewhere right? Glad we checked this spot out. It only has about 6 tables that seat 4 people a piece so I imagine it's going to start getting packed soon.
I'd never had this type of food so I asked for a recommendation. The kind waitress recommended the Pescado Frito Estilo Tipitapa which was $14.15. The plate itself was a fried fish and came with plantains (yummy) and fried queso (yummy) and a topping with bell peppers/onions of some sort that was delicious. All in all a great experience that I would have never have tried out if it wasn't for yelp.comHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Diana V.San Anselmo, CA53415Jun 4, 2015
Not a great place at all to eat Nicaraguan food. I was just recently there with a friend and this woman that works there, never seen in my life asked me if the gentleman that was with me, if i was his mistress or wife, very disrespectful, the manager apologized, however the damage is done. Customer service is bad, food too expensive and not too good, place is dirty. Needless to say i would never ever go back there.
