Went here before for my birthday last year and loved it! Went here again this year with my boyfriend and we had a beautiful little date together. Enjoying some ribs collards and cornbread. I will say I dont remember her name but their was a dark skin young lady about my age and she was a great waitress. The food her service everything was how it should be. I also enjoy going to Billy joes!
The ribs fell right off the bone and really tasty! I'm a huge fan of collard greens and they never disappoint. The Mac n cheese bites are to die for !Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 339439600Nov 16, 2023
Decent place for bbq in the Hudson valley. Right on the Hudson River so nice views while dining. The ribs are fall off the bone kind of ribs which I liked but wish there was a dry rub option. The bbq chicken had a nice Smokey flavor and was not dry.
I enjoyed the cornbread and collard greens. The whipped sweet potatoes were a tad too sweet, almost like a sweet potato pie filling.
The kids liked their Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Kids meal comes with a small sundae.
The server was sweet and pleasant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 20241 check-in
The food was okay. Sat outside. Service was good as well. My only complaint (nothing to do w the service or food), was the amount of garbage you can see blowing off the tables right in to the water. Heck, I'm not even an environmentalist, but to watch the napkins, straws and paper goods (including foil ketchup condiment packet pc/s) blow in to the water was a bit much. Take away straws and pc/s on outside tables is just a suggestion. Ya can't stop a windy day, but a great view.

I enjoyed the bbq here including the heavy but delicious porky mac n cheese. For the brisket plate, we had braised greens and onion straws. We also shared the bronto beef ribs which were delicious and fell right off the bone. Service was good too and the ambiance was cool with nice decor.

Reuben Sandwich, the brisket on this was so tender, i just wanted to pick at with a fork. Bbq sauce wasnt served with this but once added it made the sandwich so much more tastier. The food is lacking flavor. The creamy mac cheese has something added to the rue, i couldn't pin point but it didn't make it any more flavorful. Service was good, ambiance & views are good.

Hubs has never claimed to be the BBQ know-it-all...because he's not. But one thing is 110% certain- my husband loves meat with those crispy+burnt edges and an overall char. He almost got his wish when we came to Billy J's by the Hudson River in Newburgh.
Whatever garage/factory Billy J's was in its past life, they did a nice job converting that into the restaurant it is today. They have an indoor dining area that spans practically a small city block (not true- but seemed like it), another side of the restaurant with glass garage doors adding visual spice with a panoramic view to the Hudson as well as their deck area out in the open.
My Riesling was way too sweet for my liking and would've appreciated a more crisp feel. Hubs' Long Island Ice Tea tasted like juice with none of the strength. We stuck to water after that. Our girl Gianna must've been no older than 23- but boy was she on us like a hawk with a quick hand for any of our requests and pleasant at that too.
Crispy Shrimp appetizer had a subtle coconut crust. As ugly as catfish is, I went for it in a cornmeal-crust with broccoli sans cheese (as I wanted it) and a side of fries as my two choices. The fish has a nice amount of salt and crunch...but it cracked everywhere. Hubs went for the full rack of ribs- except he didn't want all that slathered-on BBQ sauce. He told our girl he wanted burnt edges and a char. The kitchen worked their magic somewhat. Maybe this isn't the type of BBQ place where they make ribs with burnt edges and a char¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But he raved about their fall-off-the-bone meat though. This may not have been above the level for us. But it was an 'ok' try.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 7Oh no 0 - Sep 19, 2023
The food is average. Not bad, but also not anything to write home about. However the view and service make up for the food.
Ariana was so attentive and a wonderful server. I received the wrong side and before I could even say anything she noticed, pointed out there was pork in the beans for any dietary restrictions I may have, and got me the correct side.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jeanne A.NY, NY012May 5, 2024
Great place for a drink and barbecue! We came on a rainy Sunday afternoon! I'm sure if it was better weather the beautiful patio would have been packed. We sat at the bar for a few drinks and appetizers.. the bartenders were friendly and attentive. There was a DJ playing hip hop music which added to the fun atmosphere .. recommend for a fun atmosphere and good barbecue and family friendly!
