Q:
Do they serve anything for kids?
A:
They offered a kids pasta bolognese when we dined there. I'm sure they could make accommodations for littles.

What is the dress code? We are casual dressers?
A:
Mountain causal is the norm but if you were dressed up it would fit the ambiance too. We have gone in both looks and felt appropriate.

Our dinner at Rootstalk was a very special experience. We were lucky enough to grab the 7 course Chef's dinner experience which was unbelievable. We sat just feet from the kitchen and as each dish was served the Chef came over and described exactly what we were having. It was very special to be able to talk thru each dish with the people who created it. Each serving was small since we had to go thru seven courses including dessert. The flavors were such a wonderful experience. There was a 'mushroom schnitzel' course that was out of this world. Again and again we were surprised by the tastes and flavors. It was a night we will never forget!

Our party was there this past Saturday with a large group for their Chef's tasting menu. We had 8 adults and 4 young children, and were admittedly terrible guests. Our kids were melting down, one got sick and we ended up having to spread out over three tables. Through it all the staff there was unbelievably helpful, supportive, attentive and patient with us. The food and atmosphere was of course excellent, but if I could give more than 5 stars to the staff I would. Thank you!!

What a fantastic Scar of the Sea dinner the other night. The five course tasting menu was really terrific. The portion sizes were excellent. We left full but not overfull which is always nice. The lamb tartare was the star for me though the tuna, burrata and steak were also quite good. The amuse bouche with smoked trout was a great little bite too. I personally keep forgetting to ask for a slightly more done steak (like medium) as it is usually cooked medium rare or even close to rare so just beware if you like your steak a little more cooked. I loved the dessert even though strawberry rhubarb isnt usually my jam and adding the goat cheese was a twist but it all worked amazingly together, especially the candied pistachios.
Madison and the somm team was excellent as usual in explaining the wines and pairing this great winery's products. The combo pinot noir/pinot gris was the most unique wine I have tried. The chard was also pretty different from your typical CA chard, in all the good ways.
Fwiw, the Bend and Snap and the gin version of the Sore Subject were AWESOME. Their cocktail program continues to amaze and impress.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 27, 2022Previous reviewWe've had the chance to dine here a number of times and I think they have nearly perfected the tasting menu, which we had last week. So many amazing courses that I would happily have again. The lobster roll was amazing--not too heavily sauced and great lobster meat. The tartare was also great especially with how they reimagined the egg component. The NY strip and scallops were great too. When the homemade pasta is at the bottom of the list, you know you are having a great meal!
About the only thing I would love to see here is slightly smaller portions. The meal was well paced but even still we really couldnt come close to finishing it all. The steak was outstanding cold the next day though!
well doneAug 17, 2022Previous reviewWe had two great meals here last week--a five course at the counter downstairs and seven course upstairs. The food is fantastic and the team does a really nice job. Beware that the counter can get hot (just think about what the chefs have to deal with btw) so plan accordingly for those seats but they are really fun and give you a birds eye view of the kitchen. The somms are also terrific with great knowledge of the wines.
I'd say the octopus and beef with amazing corn and sweetbreads are our current favs on the tasting menu but every course is lovely, flavorful and well prepared. This is our go-to in Breck and highly recommended for friendly fine dining - James M.Hershey, PA51523Mar 27, 2024
This place would absolutely have a Michelin star if it were in a major city. Incredible food, spectacular wine, amazing cocktail program. Food and drink is not just delicious, but so clearly intentional and thoughtful in its flavor, presentation, and pairing.
This is the best fine dining in Breck, easy, and more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 2024
I've been trying to decide whether to say that this is the best restaurant I've been to in Colorado and it may very well be.
First off, loved the interior. Located in a home, it was super cozy. It was well decorated and felt elevated, but not pretentious.
Service was amazing. Every single person who came to our table was kind and wished us a happy anniversary. We felt very well taken care of.
The cocktails were all really creative and delicious. We sampled around 5ish cocktails between the two of us and there weren't any we disliked.
The best for last is the food. Each dish was beautiful presented, flavors worked very well with each other, and were creative. We added the octopus to our tasting and after dessert I'd say we were full (but not overly stuffed and bloated).
Definitely on the pricier side so save it for a special occasion. But would love to return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 20241 check-in
Incredible experience for a special occasion! Rootstalk made our anniversary so special. We were originally going to just get things a la carte but the tasting menu looked good so we decided to go for the tasting menu. The service was so great, we had so many people coming up to wish us a happy anniversary.
Each dish was so uniquely crafted and enjoyable. Even a few that we weren't as interested in, like the asparagus, ended up being so unique and interesting that we enjoyed it. I think the lamb tartare was my favorite of them all. Also the cocktails were all delicious.
Like many places in breck Rootstalk is located inside an old house but we loved the ambiance. It's definitely a special occasion sort of place but we loved it and can't wait to return next.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 14, 2024
We are locals and just had our first dinner at Rootstalk. Hands down it is now our favorite restaurant in Breckenridge. Drinks are amazing, wine selection is killer, the food is second to none and the service is simply incredible. Photos below.
You MUST plan ahead because you need to make the reservation at least 2 weeks in advance. But is is completely worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 6, 20241 check-in
Incredible food. Incredible service. Get a reservation early and come hungry.
The most delicious part of the whole meal came in the appetizer- the sauce in the mussels is to die for. Could drink the whole thing. I got the swordfish schnitzel, which unfortunately was meh. I tried the duck, which was much better.
All the desserts were wonderful, especially the goat cheesecake. The servers are attentive and noise level was just right. Highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 16101236Mar 19, 2024
The food was amazing, and our server gave lots of good suggestions! We didn't do the 7 course tasting menu, but will when we go back. If you like innovative food and a constantly changing menu, you will love this place! Solid wine list and other delicious drinks.

Best dinner restaurant out of the ones my fiance and I hit up in Breck (Bistrot, Radicato, and this one). The food, the service, and the vibe were all top notch. The fiance rates it a 4.5/5 - and its hard to disagree - our experience was fantastic! We had a (Tock) reservation for 2 at 745pm on Sunday, January 14, and arrived at 740pm to get our choice of tables.
Before I go further - order the duck breast. Don't even think about it - just do it, and then thank me later. I was considering the pork tenderloin, and I did actually order the NY steak, but the duck breast stood out so much that it literally needs to be recommended on its own.
For appetizers? Go with the roasted beet salad. If you know your vegetables (and fruit), you'll definitely appreciate how this dish came together, and then savour all of the different flavours that they put together.
For service - my water cup was never less than 1/4 full - and I really tried to chug it! The drinks came out fast, the appetizer was quick, entrees were quick, and desserts were also fast. The only annoying thing (that bigger parties may encounter) is that they only serve the "same" entree stage at the same time. So if you're on entrees, until they've made all of them, you're not going to get it early.
Ambiance - it was a quiet playlist, but the only complaint I'll say is that the sound carries too easily here - I could clearly hear conversation from both the table next to mine, AND the table two rows down (even though they were at normal speaking volume). It's easy to block out the noise, but anyone with sensitive ears should be aware - it's somewhat loud here.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
