I go here for the poke and some good sake selections.
Cant go wrong with the Tamara special and the hawaiian poke. I like to mix both so i can get the seaweed crunch in every bite.
Great thing is they make the poke fresh every morning!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 23, 2023Updated review
I'm updating my last review because it turns out it was an honest mistake and I was overcharged for 2 poke bowls. After reading my review on here, Ty the manager reached out and apologized and made it right with a refund for the overage and a gift card for the trouble. Turns out they had a new employer who was still learning.
I appreciate the integrity here. I wasn't likely to go back if I thought they had the most expensive poke bowls in the 808 but they're not too shabby for $15 each!
They do have the best wine selection on island IMO.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Aug 20, 2023Previous reviewAlmost $32 for a poke bowl?!!! I have no idea how they got so expensive but I definitely won't be back for a while. Maybe they included the weight of the rice in the price of the bowl?
Attitude from the poke counter people is not very friendly and they're snippy about answering questions.
Todays poke selection wasn't particularly delicious especially for the price.
Previously frozen hamachi was $29.99 a pound. Yoikes!
Paid almost $80 for 2 poke bowls, 1/4 pound each tako poke, hamachi poke and 1 beer. We should have gone to a restaurant instead for the price.
I do appreciate their selection of alcohol.Dec 3, 2018Previous reviewMy favorite place for poke and beer (or wine). Their poke is fresh and perfectly seasoned. It's pricier than supermarket poke but you will understand as soon as you try it. I've been going here for poke for years, but have noticed the decline in quality and taste lately. I now ask to sample everything before I buy it because I've been disappointed a few times with fishy flavor, low quality cuts (aka sinews in the ahi flesh) or seasoning is off. They also sell out quickly of the popular types. The Kim Chee shrimp was mushy and flavorless last time so I haven't gotten it in a while bc it was such a turnoff.
However, service is always great. Knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Decent hours, as in, you're not cut off by 5! The parking lot is a 1 way in/ out, so pay attention or it messes with things!!! Decent amount of stalls, so I've never had to circle like a vulchar to get one.
They have cold packs of beer to the left when you walk in, and single serve beers (cold and shelf) to the right in the back. The poke counter is in the back on the right. Try the crawfish poke!!
Wines are decently priced and there's many to choose from, in addition to champagne and hards. It's the best adult grocery store ever!!
There's even gourmet foods like cheese and salami and crackers. If you want to impress your love on a date, pack a picnic from here. Just don't rook out and forget to bring cups!Oct 14, 2016Previous reviewMy favorite place for poke and beer (or wine). Their poke is fresh and perfectly seasoned. Writing this review makes me wanna drive across town after work and go get some goodies to kick the weekend off. Despite the traffic on aloha Friday. It's that good!!! - 30582146Sep 10, 2023
I would never know of this poke spot if a friend recommended this to me. No one would expect a poke place being located in a liquor store. I got the spicy mayo & Tamura's special ahi tuna bowl, it was freshly made and tasted amazing. They made sure to give an ample amount of furikake seasoning on the rice.
The service is as fast as you expect a local butcher shop to make your bowl. You pay for the bowl in the front cash register, so don't forget to get a drink with your order.
I would totally recommend giving this place a try! I will be back to try their dried ahi, smoked marlin, and their many sides.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 2, 2023
Gosh, you would not think one of the best places to get poke be located inside a liquor store. But it is!
The poke here is so fresh and beautifully seasoned. It's not too salty nor drowned in sauce. I came early so not all the variations were available yet.
You have an option to select poke that used fresh fish or previously frozen but still fresh fish. Personally, I don't really taste a difference. To me, poke made with previously frozen fresh fish yields slightly firmer fish cubes but that's about it. Considering that you will save almost 50% on the price with no major noticeable difference in taste, I think you cannot go wrong with the previously frozen fish poke.
Tamura's is a must visit if you are doing an island poke pilgrimage. Ah, but no samples here though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Lynn N.Urban Honolulu, HI419137Apr 10, 2024
I love this place because it's the only place that has Orions that I know of in island that's close to me. I like that they have a huge selection of all different types of alcohols because we sometimes like to make our own drinks at home and they sell everything that we need here. They also have little snacks available as well and they have all of the Asia-imported alcohols that we like available for purchase unlike other local grocery stores.

Had two friends recommend me to stop by this store for poke and I trust their judgement.
6/28 visit: had a friend who wanted me to get him some alcohol during my stay in Hawaii. Me and my bf were in the area so we dillydallied our way into Tamuras. The older gentleman at the front serviced us when I asked to find two specific bottles of liquor. He was so pleasant to talk to; incredibly nice and gave us recommendations to do during our vacation. He was also the third vote to get their poke so we were more than willing to come back.
6/30 visit: we came back for their poke and the service was pretty so-so. The man behind the counter seemed overwhelmed and prob had a long day since he sounded annoyed when I had a question and what I wanted to order. The poke was delicious though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 28, 2023
Tamura's is a very popular locals spot for fresh poke and liquor of choice. IYKYK ;)
One of the freshest poke selection here. We love to take family/friends visiting and surprise them with fresh poke from what looks like a random liquor store. Haha.
I do recommend skipping the rice here. I got a side of rice with poke and it was terribly dry. It's okay, I came here for poke anyway.
Awesome selection of local beers, ciders, and variety of liquor and wine for your needs. They have some sales that make it cheaper too.
Can be busy. Parking available.
Really friendly service here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Mar 22, 2023
Tamura's offers a wide range of spirits that interests me including wine, bourbon, sake, shochu and beer. Add to that their excellent poke counter and chiller with all sorts of gourmet goodies.
I've been patronizing this location ever since they opened as it's located a very short block from my in-law's house. I would stroll my infant and first born grandson around the neighborhood and end up at Tamura's to pickup poke, boiled peanuts and their fried tofu with sea asparagus poke. In case I was lacking an adult beverage I could spend a lot of time in air conditioned comfort perusing the aisles.
Great consumable products sold at fair prices with great service draws me back time and time again. I forget to Yelp my visits but Tamura's doesn't lack for great reviews. Buy and support local!Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2023
The service here is always top notch whether you're here for the poke or the alcohol. They gave us recommendation on what to order and what size container should we get based off of our group size.
My favorite was the Tamura sauce and the island ahi sunrise. The nori on top of spicy ahi for the sunrise was SO GOOD!
They also have a great selection of drinks from beer, wine, sake, to tequila and whiskey. It's our favorite one stop shop before heading to our friends place!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2023
Rating is just for the poke itself.
I came here after hiking Diamond Head @~6PM, because my cousin was raving about the sunrise/sunset poke(I forget what's it called, but it ran out anyway so I didn't get to try..)
Since I was here already, tried the poke bowl with spicy / shoyu ahi.. The spicy mayo ahi had wayyy too much sauce, it was not good.
The rice was dry and hard, it was also not good. Very difficult to eat /swallow, so i ended up not eating it. Inedible, all that furikake on top did not save it from tasting any better.
I ended up texting my cousin that this was not good, she said maybe you went on an off day.. Are off days suppose to hinder quality? It shouldn't..
If you have a good experience here, I am glad, but this experience was too poor for me.
They do have a decent selection of beers.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
