Wow! What a classic! I loved everything about this spot.
Before a performance at The CIBC Theater, we visited The Grillroom for appetizers and a glass of wine. Everything was great.
The atmosphere is old school with a nostalgic, vintage vibe. Dark wood and tile floor creates a classy and cozy atmosphere. The curved bar allowed a lot of seating.
The bar back was incredible. He was so personable and helpful. Our bartender was very busy, but he managed well. I chatted with the General Manager who was very nice also.
I always forget about The Grillroom for dinner. But now it is back on my radar, and I will go for a full dinner soon.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - Nov 8, 2023
The Grillroom Chophouse & Wine Bar is a great place to have a nice lunch or dinner downtown.
The service is very friendly, it's not too congested or loud in the restaurant and the food was great. I'd recommend the calamari and steak kabob appetizers, very fresh and tasty. For my entree, I had a quinoa bowl with medium rare steak in the bowl - very tasty and good quality, filling.
It is less expensive than other restaurants with comparable food downtown.
I'd highly recommend checking out this restaurant if you're in the city.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 70409873Jun 21, 2023
Quick service and nice staff! It's a classic white table cloth steakhouse. Perfect for if you are headed to a show across the street.
We started with a few appetizers the buffalo mozzarella and the bacon wrapped scallops. The scallops were cooked to perfection. The bacon could have been crispier, but it was still really good. The buffalo mozzarella was served on a toast with tomatoes and a balsamic glaze. This was pretty basic.
I ordered the smallest steak they had on the menu which was an 8oz filet. I would have loved a 6oz, but c'est la vie. I added the mushroom topper and the shrimp on the side. The steak was cooked perfect to order, I was even skeptical since it looked overdone but nope! The mushrooms were seasoned well but the shrimp was over cooked, chewy and barely warm in the butter sauce. For the $15 upcharge don't bother with the shrimp as they are definitely not worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 14, 2022
After walking around Chicago looking at various sights we needed a spot to get some food.
We did a quick Yelp search and came up with a couple of locations that were near by and this one was closest.
Walking in it is pretty much the usual for your typical upscale steakhouse... dark lit, lots of dark wood, white table clothes, well dressed waiters, etc... it hit every staple of an upper end steak place.
I was not wanting anything too heavy but I love tomato bisque. I had to have a bowl... and rightly so.... It was heavenly. Smooth and creamy and then with a couple of dashes if pepper it was just perfect!
For my meal I had the grilled pear and goat cheese salad. A wonderful pairing with lots of fantastic flavors. It was a hearty salad that was perfect for what I was looking for. Between the dressing, the pear, and the goat cheese my taste buds were signing!
Just a bit of a tip:
This locations is right across from a theater. On show nights it is completely packed... we got here just as show time was approaching and people weee clearing out so we were able to get seats... but any earlier and we would have been stuck waiting.
Our server was wonderful, the atmosphere was good... it was a nice place with big prices and everything you expect for a steakhouse.Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 1 - Marla Powers G.South Side, Calumet Park, IL0288Apr 21, 2023
The food and the service was outstanding! The food was delicious. Ample portions and a variety that could accommodate carnivores as well as vegetarians.
The ambiance was very relaxing and enjoyable. I especially liked the music. Basically, old school JAZZ from all the great legends!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karen R.Homewood, IL3340525Dec 12, 2022
We attended a performance at the theater across the street. Parking garage in the restaurant building so it was very convenient.
I had a very good chocolate martini. I had a cup of tomato basil soup and my husband had the gumbo.
I had the whitefish. While I enjoyed the overall taste of the fish, I didn't like the tomato sauce served under it. It tasted like the soup I had! Very strange.
My husband had the salmon. It was a bit dry and they put a sauce over it to camouflage it.
I decided to take my carrot cake home. It was good.
Service was ok..
Nothing stood out.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Naotomo Y.Chicago, IL722040Jan 26, 2023
This is an old fashion steakhouse right in the very convenient location in downtown Chicago. The place is big with high ceiling, and seatings are comfortable. People come here mostly for the theater across the road.
We ordered salad, scallop, New York strip, and a chicken wrap. Both salad and scallops were pretty ok. The texture of the new York strip seemed being aged, and perfectly chargrilled right at medium rare. It would be better if there was less burnt on the edge, would be even better if there was a small stem of rosemary on the plate just for decoration and would be much appreciated if they had a couple of different salt on the table such as pink salt or sea salt, and black pepper. About the chicken on the salad, which was overcooked, dry and hard, with the grill mark full of burnt charcoal. Should have cleaned the grill before cooking the chicken. The chicken wrap is huge, with a lot of fresh ingredients. Overall experience was good, nice atmosphere, ingredients were fresh, waiter was attentive, the portion is large and quality of the meat is good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jon W.Kansas City, MO21221Jul 31, 2023
It had good and bad. Salad and shrimp cocktail were great. Service was excellent. Steak was very good. My brussel sprouts were under cooked.

Location is great if you're seeing a play but food was just average. Wine pour was not great for the price and service was just ok. Got the bill and they added a specialty drink ($18) that we never ordered. They took it off without question but always makes me suspect if they do this randomly. Another reminder to always check your bill. And please get some Greased Lightning for your bathrooms. So dirty and worn. This place needs a deep clean.
