Great action shot of Lo Fat – bull calf as big cat! Such a difference in conformation between them – looks like Reese has his Mother’s ‘gangling’ genes.
Yes, right there is the stark difference between a beef breed and a dairy, one puts their all into meat and the other into milk production. It’s amazing how much stronger the beef calves are with the extra muscle.
No, one is full-blooded dairy, and the other full-blooded beef. Reese is the dairy calf, and yes seeing ribs is common on a dairy breed at all stages of their life.
"Whole cultures have risen and fallen because they couldn't figure out how to make all the area like the good spot, and instead made all the good spots like the bad ones." Joel Salatin, Salad Bar Beef
I love it when they run about like that!. I am hot on the trail of a guernsey for my next milk cow. Fingers crossed.
Just watching that makes ya smile!
Their first day out – they were tuckered out after a few sessions of playing and learning about the electric fence :p
Matron, I’m assuming that Lo Fat will eventually join the herd when he is weaned? Will Reese join the herd too?
Barb, hopefully next spring they can both go with the herd, but definitely not before then.
Ain’t life grand, for them and us! Thanks for sharing!!!
They are so cute at this stage, and sweet, soon the teenage months will kick in 🙂

Are these two the same type of cow? Reese looks well filled out and the other guy-well I can see his ribs! Is that normal for this stage of life?

Chalk and cheese in type but very cute together.
They are having a great time, they have no idea how different they look 🙂
Awe BFF’s! 🙂 Too bad most humans can’t get along that well with other “breeds” !!
I will be saving this post and bringing out any day I need a big smile. Thank you
When I see a calf running, I think…cute baby! When the hubby sees one running…he says,”Stop!, you’ll get tough”
Sweet to see “friends”….
I love having 2 claves on the cow – they do so much better imo with a buddy.
And the dairy baby is not skinny….those calves raised on a commercial diary are *skinny*. That’s a healthy, cow fed, dairy calf in the flesh
Lovely, thank you for so many pictures of the two having a good time.
just GORGEOUS!!!!!!!
