First thing this morning, I heard the warriors' screams as the surgeon operated. They used saws, chisels, and drills to operate on the injured warriors. The cocoa leaf didn't seem to be easing their pain, and I was awoken a little earlier than I may have hoped for. They were out in battle, which I realize is very common, for the Incas live in a very military society.
The Inca territory has been rapidly expanding because they have been conquering neighbouring peoples. The rulers of those peoples become part of the Incan government. The emperor's son are his advisors, and his relatives govern each quarter of the empire. The governor of the quarter I'm staying in chose someone to be an official. They chose me to be the ruler of groups of one-hundred. I chose another person to control groups of ten people. Only males can go to school, and participate in races.
"Attawappa has been kidnapped!" Came shouts later. I knew what had happened, because I had been the runner who gave him the message. Attawappa was kidnapped by the Spanish. I found out later in the day, that they had tied him to a chair and choked him to death. The Spanish are way more advanced than the Incas. All they wanted was gold, so why did they have to come kill us? I tried to calm down the hundred people I rule over, but it wouldn't work. The Spanish have gunpowder, and horses, and we do not. The Spanish eventually destroyed the Incas, but I escaped just in time to make it home.
