Starting a university path is a choice that many students, after high school, decide to do. The situation is, however, different for the “older” students, those over 30. At such an age, enrolling in the university is in fact a choice that can be, from a certain point of view, considered as courageous, because plunging into a reality that is populated by new graduates can be difficult, as well as start studying again since the mind is no longer trained in studying activities.

C.S. Lewis once stated: “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream”. (WEBSITE, 2018)

So, age it is not usually the problem, it is more a matter of positivity and above all of determination.

There are different reasons why people decide to start their university studies in adulthood. Generally, these are related to the desires to follow one’s passion and get back into the game, to realize career opportunities, and the aspiration to learn, thus growing one’s cultural and personal knowledge levels.

In my specific case it is all the above. Through this article, I would like to share with all the readers my personal experience as a student at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Being unsatisfied with my work position and tasks, I was looking for a way to improve my knowledge in the business field. Thus, I chose to apply for Metropolia EBA program, because it seemed to be the perfect opportunity for me to enhance my future career opportunities. In fact, despite many years of working in the commerce and trading, even though I had developed the practical knowledge, I did not have the theoretical knowledge. It turned out that theoretical knowledge would be important for my future carrier opportunities.

The strongest points of Metropolia EBA program are that it is completely offered in English and in an international environment that enable you to learn from different people having varied professional and educational backgrounds. High-quality courses and real-life case studies are another point of strength in Metropolia programs.

Teachers are another point of strength in Metropolia University, kind and helpful, with very good teaching methods that are effective and often enjoyable. I also learned to work in teams and that helped putting into practice all the theoretical knowledge, which I had learned during the lectures. Learning while practicing -methodology enabled me to put into practice everything I had learned of the different subjects during the lectures. I appreciated most such courses and classes that were interactive and not purely theoretical.

The campus is in an easy-to-reach metropolitan area. The building is spacious, with several areas used for studying and reading, in addition to a modern library.

Metropolia University offers a multicultural studying environment. Socializing with my international classmates was quite easy from the start. If a student is interested, he/she may join several student or interns’ groups via social networks that often organize events and activities: fun and good times are guaranteed.

Up to now my experience has been very positive. In a few months I have learned a lot, in an environment rich in culture, friendly and fun.
