WHY LIMES ARE GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN

INTRODUCTION

Limes are good for your skin. The citrus fruit is not only refreshing in the kitchen and in cocktails, it also works wonders for the skin.

Limes are rich in nutrients and substances such as citric acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C and flavonoids. They have a cleansing and detoxifying effect on the body systems. Therefore, limes are not only good for the skin, but for overall health.

VITAMIN C IN LIMES

The most notable substance that limes contain is vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is essential for eliminating free radicals that can damage healthy cells throughout the body. Free radicals are the biggest threat to our skin as they damage cells and their membranes. Vitamin C is the only antioxidant that can also increase collagen synthesis. Collagen is responsible for the skin’s firmness and elasticity, and as we age, collagen production decreases, causing wrinkles. In addition, the vitamin C found in lime juice is known to kill certain strains of bacteria that can cause acne.

A healthy way to consume more lime juice is to add some to a glass of water every day. This is not only healthy, but can also be a nice change of pace. But be careful: if you drink lime juice every day, your teeth won’t like it so much. It can damage the enamel layer of your teeth, so it’s worth buying a stainless steel straw to prevent tooth decay.

OTHER USES FOR LIMES

– Acne and blackheads

– You can use the antibacterial and antifungal properties of limes as a natural alternative for acne and blackheads. Cut a lime and rub the juice on your face. You can also smear honey on it before tackling the black spots. Leave everything on for 3 to 5 minutes and wash your face thoroughly with cold water.

– Spots and blemishes

– Acne scars, dark spots and blemishes are an uphill battle. The acid in lime juice will gradually soothe your skin. Be careful with open scars and wounds. Lime can feel a little stinging.

– Oily skin

– If you suffer from oily skin, lime juice can also help. Squeeze the lime juice in a bowl and add 50% more water. Soak cotton wool with the mixture and apply it to the affected areas. Do this no more than three times a week.

IMPORTANT NOTE

– Never use lime juice if you are going to be exposed to the sun. This may cause a change in skin tone.

– Limes should not be left on the skin for more than a few minutes. This is because of the low pH value.

– Limes can temporarily change the skin.
