His record of climbing Mt. Everest for the 27th time was equaled by Pasang Dawa Sherpa on May 22, 2023. So again he has left Pasang Dawa Sherpa behind.

Kami Rita Sherpa was born on 17 January 1970 AD in the beautiful Thame village of Solukhumbu, Nepal. He grew up in the beautiful mountains of Nepal. He was fascinated by stories of Sherpa climbers who conquered Mount Everest. Kami dreamt of becoming a great climber like them. In his village, mountaineering was a part of everyday life. He watched Sherpa climbers go on expeditions and guide treacherous mountain trails. His father was also a good mountain guide.

Even though he didn't have formal schooling, Kami received education from local schools and his parents. He also played with other Sherpa children who shared his dreams. Initially, Kami had a plan to become a monk and train for five years in Thame Dechen Chokhorling monastery. However, he confessed to the Independent that during his upbringing, he felt envious of the nice clothes and belongings that people in the village brought back from their expeditions.

Moreover, Kami's parents were facing difficulties in providing for their large family at that time, leaving him with no other option but to pursue a career as a guide, following in the footsteps of other family members.
