Location Situated on the north bank of the River Tyne, in North East England.

Brief Description City and metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear, the city was founded in the 2nd century.  It owes its name to the castle built in 1080 by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, eldest son of William the Conqueror.  It covers an area of 43.6 sq mi (113 km2).
Industry Following closure of coal mining and shipbuilding industries the city is now largely a business and cultural centre.
