Surgeons in India removed a staggering 2,350 gallbladder stones from a woman — in one shot.
The 50-year-old woman experienced abdominal pain for 18 months after medics spotted the lumps but opted for “alternative treatments.”
But when the pain became unbearable, she visited a hospital in Mumbai, where medics removed more than 2,000 gallstones.
Laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Bimal C. Shah performed the operation at Bhaktivedanta Hospital earlier this month.
He said: “The patient is fine after the surgery and is recovering well.”
“Gallstones measuring up to 10 to 12 millimeters [nearly half an inch] were removed through surgery which lasted about 30 minutes.”
“She was admitted earlier this month and an ultrasound confirmed what was found in the earlier investigations.”
In August 1987, 23,530 gallstones were removed from an 85-year-old woman at Worthing Hospital in England’s West Sussex after she complained of severe abdominal pain.
