Why this French politician named her cat Brexit

A prominent French politician named her fickle feline Brexit because he can’t make up his mind whether to stay or bolt.

Nathalie Loiseau, the country’s minister for European affairs, said her kitty meows loudly by the door each morning — then obnoxiously refuses to leave when she opens it, according to Le Journal du Dominate.

“He wakes me up every morning meowing to death because he wants to go out, and then when I open the door he stays put, undecided, and then glares at me when I put him out,” she told the French paper, according to a translation by the UK Independent.

Her cat comment comes as a vote last week put the UK’s long-delayed decision to leave the European Union at a standstill.

This week, a vote could determine whether lawmakers will extend the Brexit negotiating period. But British Prime Minister Theresa May might reject the deal, made by the House of Commons, for the third time.

Loiseau, one of the top candidates for Emmanuel Macron’s party, is facing off against a far-right insurgency in upcoming European Parliament elections.
