East Williamsburg

With a mix of apartment buildings, warehouses, and converted artists lofts, East Williamsburg is part gritty industrial area and part rising creative quarter. Often mis-identified as Bushwick, and sometimes colloquially referred to as Morgantown or Robertasville, East Williamsburg is quickly developing an identity of its own. With plenty of street art, hidden away DIY spaces, historic buildings, tech enterprises, and trendy new shops, East Williamsburg is a place of constant flux, and a happy home for many a self-made creative individual with hustle and heart.

Syndicated is an awesome warehouse-converted art deco dine-in cinema, restaurant, and bar. You wouldn't know it from the outside (the only sign is some tiny lettering next to an indistinct door) but step inside and you're in an expansive, exquisitely detailed restaurant with a bar in the center and a very vintage feel. The theater in the back doesn't show first-run blockbusters but rather 80s camp, black and white classics, cheesy comedies, art-house flicks, and the occasional Oscar nod. Buy a ticket for $3 ($5 for double-features—I know) to gain access to their 50-seat screening room where filmgoers can sit back in roomy leather banquettes with small tables to enjoy food and drinks with their entertainment. Their selection of artisanal snacks includes steak frites, loaded tater tots, and bowls of eight different flavors of gourmet popcorn. This place is brand new and surely will become a neighborhood favorite.
