New Map Shows Global Imbalance of Pathologists

A groundbreaking map showing pathologist distribution worldwide was published in the January/February 2023 issue of The Pathologist, and represents a first step in correcting the significant international imbalances in the supply of pathologists. Pathology services underpin health systems around the globe, but pathology is often overlooked.

Professor Emeritus Stanley Robboy, MD, and Visiting Professor of Pathology Ann Nelson, MD, contributed to the article. 

“Dr. Nelson is a powerhouse and has done much to bring pathology to Africa,” said Robboy, who headed the College of American Pathologists from 2009-2013. Under his leadership, the board recognized that American medicine was in a crisis and about to undergo a massive change. They embarked on reviewing all aspects of pathology, including the workforce.
