Thunbergia fragrans, commonly known as fragrant thunbergia or white lady, is a charming and woody perennial vine native to tropical and subtropical regions of Africa and Asia. This vine is distinguished by its heart-shaped leaves and elegant, fragrant white flowers that possess a waxy texture. The blossoms are small and trumpet-shaped, exuding a delicate, sweet fragrance that enhances the garden air. The plant's trailing or climbing growth habit makes it an ideal choice for covering trellises, fences, and arbors. Thunbergia fragrans are appreciated for their ornamental beauty and the lovely scent of its blooms, which also attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Its low maintenance requirements and adaptability to various climates make it a favored addition to garden landscapes, particularly in warm and subtropical regions, where it graces outdoor spaces with both visual and olfactory appeal.  Zones 9-11

Germination

To germinate Thunbergia fragrans seeds, start by soaking seeds overnight. Plant the seeds in well-draining soil or a seed-starting mix, sowing them about 1/4 inch deep. Water the soil thoroughly after planting and maintain even moisture. Place the containers in a warm location with temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F) to encourage germination. Thunbergia fragrans seeds can take 2-4 weeks to sprout under optimal conditions. Once the seedlings have grown strong enough, they can be transplanted into individual pots or directly into the garden, where the fragrant white flowers of the fragrant thunbergia will grace trellises, fences, and arbors, bringing both visual and aromatic delight to outdoor spaces.
