Unnamed forces trying to acerbate Ethio- Sudan relations

ADDIS ABABA– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said it did not mention the name of a given country that is making attempts to stoke animosity between Ethiopia and Sudan in its latest statement.

During the recent weekly press briefing, MoFA Spokesperson Ambassador Dina Mufti said: “Some forces are trying to take  advantages over the current Ethio-Sudan border issues by aggravating the case.”

It is to be recalled that Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafiz said it was “inappropriate to say that Egypt is opposed to the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to ease its crisis.” in a statement, he criticized Ambassador Dina Mufti.

According to MoFA, Ambassador Dina did not mention any countries’ names at all while briefing journalists on current issues.

Despite no mention of the name of a single country from the Ethiopian side, if Egypt concedes exacerbating the situation, Ethiopia cannot defend Egypt on the latter’s behalf.

In his recent exclusive interview with local media Amb. Dina Mufti said that the Ethiopian government is so committed to peaceful settlement of Ethio- Sudan border issues.

He, however, said: “Some Sudanese forces are claiming Ethiopian territories through rejecting border settlement. So, Ethiopian government is still calling for peaceful dialogue to resolve the century- old boarder issues.”

Talking about diplomatic measures, he said : “Ethiopia has raised the issue to all concerning bodies and Ethiopia’s stance is clear to all as it has been expressing its readiness to resettle the issue at negotiating table on several occasions.”

Ethiopia will no longer tolerate those who are trying to take control of its territories , he said, adding : “We won’t accept forces that are crossing both countries borders to carry out attacks or to instigate violence.”
