According to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS), the stauts of the coral the species is considered "uncertain", see https://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=1504747, SeaLifeBase, however, does not provide any information on this.

The fans of the soft coral Solenocaulon acalyx are as wide as they are tall, and can reach a height of up to 50 cm.

The main stem is solid in the lower part, and channel or tubular in the upper part.
The coenenchyma is white, red-brown or bright red, and the tentacles are white.
The structure- and strength-giving sclerites of the outer layer of the coenenchyma are small, colorless or pale yellow spindles.
The sclerites of the medulla, on the other hand, are white.
