Info

Rhizangiidae is a family of stony corals in the order Scleractinia, to which the following genera belong:
Cladangia Milne Edwards & Haime, 1851
Culicia Dana, 1846
Oulangia Milne Edwards & Haime, 1848
Pseudosiderastrea Yabe & Sugiyama, 1935
Siderastrea Blainville, 1830

and some fossil genera

These stony corals form small, encrusting colonies of corallites that are joined together at their base. Their septa are not fused together and are serrated.
They are usually shallow-water species.

Culicia stellata is an azooxanthellate stony coral, it has no energy-providing zooxanthellae, but is dependent on the active capture of zooplankton, which it catches with the help of its tentacles and carries to its mouth.
Living corals were last known in the waters around Singapore.
