Pelagia panopyra

Pelagia panopyra

This purple jellyfish was found stranded at rocky shore of Minatogawa Coast, Okinawa (Japan) during low tide in early summer. It has stingy tentacles and an individual on the picture is the juvenile (the bell diameter is about 30 mm). The adults are very gigantic in size. Due to their ability to swim, they are categorized as plankton.
