It grows along karensansui (dry river bed) in Area C: 5 young (smaller) bushes border the stream bed, while 2 tall (older) bushes are closer to the path – one of tall ones visually blends with the smaller ones, while the other tall one is set apart by the bench, closer to the gate. They bloom profusely pink in May.

The usual double & hose-in-hose azaleas look like flowers inside flowers, but this one’s so curly & thickly petaled it really does look much more like a tea-rose than an azalea. When the buds are only about half opened they look like perfect rosebuds.
